Once three USER types are recognized, the four components of P-I-C-K CONTENT can be maximized to engage the largest audience possible. While we know that individually, personalized, interactive or coherent multimedia play an important role in engagement, the P-I-C-K model depends on the combination of all three plus one new element.
A new and unique component in the P-I-C-K model (the "K") is a cognitive "kick-out." To date, analytics have focused on monitoring and increase engagement. P-I-C-K's "kick out" refer to anyting that can terminate a user's engagement with content. A kick-out can be an unfamilar term, broken link, long video, full page of only text, etc. Minimizing "kick-outs" is one of the four critical elements in the model.
